Department of energy and power engineering
Department of energy and power engineering was established in 1999, and its predecessor is the department of fluid machinery. Since 1986, this department started to recruit undergraduates of fluid mechanics and transmission. In 1999, with adjusting the major, based on the fluid mechanical engineering, thermal energy and power engineering specialty was established, and at the same year, undergraduate enrollment of thermal energy and power engineering started. In 2012, according to the catalogue of national undergraduate professional adjustment, the department was renamed as energy and power engineering.
 
Institutional settings:
Laboratory of energy and power engineering covers a total area of about 600m2, including the basic thermal engineering laboratory, hydraulic transmission laboratory, fluid machinery laboratory, refrigeration and air conditioning lab, with nearly 3 million yuan worth of new instruments and equipment for teaching and scientific research, and provides excellent teaching and learning environment for teachers and students.
The laboratory has a total of more than 50 sets of equipment, including heat exchanger integrated experimental platform, stable flat thermal conductivity coefficient measuring experiment, forced convection heat transfer coefficient, CO2 experimental observation of critical state and PVT meter, gas meter, specific heat at constant pressure nozzle experimental platform, intelligent instrument, wind speed fan performance curve experiment table, centrifugal pump comprehensive test-bed, pump performance test, hydraulic servo system of teaching experiment platform, the electro-hydraulic proportional valve test bench, multifunctional rapid combined hydraulic system test-bed, hydraulic experiment table, industrial boiler test-bed, distributed control bench, freezing device experimental platform, experimental platform, cold preservation experiment table, refrigeration compressor performance test system of central air-conditioning system, experiment table, refrigeration and heat pump experiment table, multifunctional rotor experimental platform, large scale flow numerical simulation analysis software fluent and five hole probe flow field test bench, etc..
 
Undergraduate teaching:
For many years, the specialty always adheres to the principle of strict scholarly research, be fully embodies the thick foundation, broadens the guiding ideology of professional, revises revision of the teaching plan comprehensively, and optimizes the curriculum structure. Combining with the actual situation of the country's energy sector, not only the thermal energy and power engineering courses are set up, but also the electronic and control of basic courses and specialized courses teaching are strengthened. The specialty advocates a liberal education, pays attention to ability training, and improves the comprehensive quality. At present, the employment rate of students is 95.6%, the postgraduate entrance examination rate is 30%, CET4 pass rate is 90%, and CET6 pass rate is 40%.
 
Professional direction:
(1) Fluid machinery and Engineering
Mainly engaged in the teaching of fluid mechanics and research work, and the main courses are: Fluid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulic Transmission and Control, Pump and Fan, etc..
(2) Thermal power generation
Mainly engaged in teaching and research work in the direction of thermal power generation, and the main courses are: Industrial Boiler, Steam Turbine, Thermal Power Plant, etc.
(3) Refrigeration and air conditioning
Mainly engaged in the direction of teaching and research work OF refrigeration and air conditioning, the main courses are: Refrigeration Principle, Refrigeration Compressor, Air Conditioning, etc.
 
Practice teaching:
Metalworking and electronic technology practice emphasizes operation and training ability, to implement the typical product and grade system as the main goal of the assessment results, by the factory practice and relevant technical personnel assessment, students are required to achieve grade two technician students accounted for 60%, grade one technician accounted for 35%. The production practice obeys the principle of integration of theory with practice and broadening the professional, in recent years the practice was carried out in Jiaozuo power plant, Jiaozuo Danhe power plant, Hubei Dongfeng power plant, Jiaozuo Yanma coal mine and Jiaozuo Shenfu boiler factory and others. And the school heating center and outside the boiler factory as the base, the department set up the school practice base. The internship System and assessment measures are implemented strictly, so that students pay high attention to practical teaching, and therefore, they improve practical ability in practice, and achieve good results.
 
Curriculum setting:
Main course are : Engineering Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Engineering Fluid Mechanics,  Principle of Boiler, Principle of Steam Turbine, Thermal Power Plant, Principle of Fluid Mechanical, Principle of Refrigeration , Hydraulic Transmission and Control, etc.. The students' employment direction are: engaged in the maintenance, design and research work of fluid machinery; engaged in thermal power plant and industrial and mining enterprises owned power plant equipment operation, engaged in maintenance, engaged in management and so on; engaged in boiler factory production, design, development, sales, etc..
 
Scientific research:
Main research directions are:
(1) Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of mine ventilator
In view of the problems that are difficult to be applied in the special environment of mine, such as conventional monitoring and diagnosis technology, equipment and so on, the fault diagnosis technology and condition monitoring system of compressor, fan and so on are studied.
(2) Jet technology application and equipment
Since 1984, This research began to study problems such as the water jet assisted rock breaking theory and technology in coal mining, the pre mixed abrasive water jet theory and the three deep water jet cutting theory, and studied the on the boring machine water jet spray dust and micro abrasive jet machining technology, pre mixed water jet shot peening technology. At present the department has carried out research on the technology of gas jet pump.
(3) Optimization design and numerical simulation of thermal equipment
This research is devoted to the study of the combustion process and technology of thermal equipment, heat transfer enhancement, and computer simulation of thermal equipment system.
(4) Energy utilization and environmental protection
Combining with the regional advantages and industrial advantages, this research not only commits to traditional energy use in the process of pollution control work, comprehensive utilization of energy, the circular economy, but also based on the basis of the traditional energy utilization, and actively carries out the development and utilization of new energy.
In the past five years, the department completed 5 national and provincial projects. At present, this department undertakes 4 provincial and ministerial projects, 10 enterprise cooperative research projects. The staff published more than and 100 teaching and research papers including more than 30 articles SIC, EI, ISTP search.
 
Discipline construction:
In 2001, the Department of energy and power engineering was awarded master’s authorization in fluid machinery and engineering. With the support of the key discipline of university and school leadership, with rapid development of fluid machinery and engineering, the application of the key discipline in Henan province was successful in 2008. Currently the department is actively preparing to declare grade-two doctor’s degree authorization center in fluid machinery and engineering, grade-one master’s authorization center in power engineering and engineering thermal physics and grade-two master’s authorization center in thermal engineering, and strive to have a breakthrough in degree authorization center in the near future.
